Blood flow restriction training for shoulder pain

Study description
We are testing the feasibility of adding blood flow restriction training to standard physical therapy for patients with shoulder pain. This involves performing strengthening exercises while a cuff restricts blood flow to the upper arm. This training allows for strengthening without the need for high external loads, which may help with pain during physical therapy exercises.

Financial implications
Research only procedures
- Screening visit
- Evaluations (baseline, 4 weeks, 8 weeks, 26 weeks)
- Exercise visitis (range 0-8, based on your physical therapy discharge)
No cost to you or your insurance.
Standard of care
Physical therapy visits: At least 8 visits (max 16 visits). You and your physical therapist will decide if you are ready to be discharged to the exercise visits.
These are standard of care clinical services, which are billed to you or your insurance as usual.
A cost estimate can be provided before enrollment.
STUDY PAYMENTS
The study will pay you based on the number of evaluations and physical therapy/exercise visits attended. The maximum payment is $800.
Evaluation visits
- Baseline: $50
- 4 weeks: $100
- 8 weeks: $150
- 26 weeks: $200
Physical therapy/exercise visits
- Week 1-2: $10 (each visit)
- Week 3-4: $15 (each visit)
- Week 5-6: $20 (each visit)
- Week 7-8: $30 (each visit)
